There has been a large debate as to whether the driving age should be increased so as to avoid deadly accidents. Those in our area have heightened the debate given the rash of deadly accidents involving local teens. However, it is in most instances the lack of maturity not age that determines whether one will be involved in an accident. It is also the degree of experience. Thus, if we raise the driving age it must be asked whether this will increase the amount of accidents by those in their late teens as they will have less experience.

Our society revolves around driving. Teenages need to work and restricting driving will directly impact this ability. As most families require both mother and father to work the inability to drive by a teenager will unduly burden the family structure. I would submit that additional educational requirements may be the most appropriate measure.
